Alive

What is it that makes us feel alive?
   Anger
   Fear
   Sadness
   Love
   Friends
   Hate
What happens when we have nothing?
   Do we cease to exist?
     Carry on as empty shells?
What fills us
   what makes us whole?
Can our tears cleanse us
   will they drown us?
I wish not to be cleansed
   the silence is comforting
Maybe through the darkness there will be peace
embrace the sorrow
Surely the pain will help
   we can find that we are truly alive.
